I’ve been reading a young adult fantasy that stretches the limits of even my over-active imagination. Yeah, I know. Hard to believe, isn’t it?
But it got me thinking, as most everything does.
The human mind is a fascinating thing. There has yet to be a computer built that comes remotely close to duplicating it. The mind takes in everything, stores it away in some kind of complex filing system, and it’s all there whenever the information needs to be accessed. Even if you think you’ve forgotten.
Ah, but there’s a catch.
Your mind, just like the rest of your body parts, gets sluggish and stale, and will eventually atrophy if you don’t exercise it. You have to keep your brain in shape. Stretch it. Bend it. Use it. Read books that make you think. Engage in conversations that make you think. Get a job that makes you think. Write down what you think. Do crosswords and sudoku puzzles. Anything to keep your mind active, alert and chugging along in the general direction of growth and improvement. Seriously.
We’ve been given an amazing gift, folks. God outdid Himself when He created us in His very image – including His supremely creative mind. I love it that God’s creation power resides in me. I love it that He wants me to use it. And I am so very thankful that I have the ability to be a part of what He is doing here on this earth.
Your mind is too valuable to let it slide into disuse. Keep it busy.
Write, sing, paint, talk, listen, pray, . . . THINK!
And thank God for every minute.
