Once Again

This week I see evidence everywhere of Christmas approaching. The commercial side. The spiritual side. And the I-don’t-want-to-offend-anyone-so-I’ll-just-say-happy-holidays side. It’s all out there.

Today, however, I think about the Cross.

The miraculous birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, is cause for celebration. Absolutely. But the real party begins when a lost soul finds his or her way to the Cross where that Savior died for them – to the empty tomb where He rose from the dead and made it possible for them to have forgiveness and an eternity in Glory. To live their years on earth walking in close relationship with Him.

The greatest price was paid. For you. For me. For all of mankind. And Jesus offers this gift free of charge.

Matt Redman’s song, Once Again, has words to ponder this Christmas season.

Jesus Christ, I think upon Your sacrifice
You became nothing, Poured out to death
Many times, I’ve wondered at your gift of life
I’m in that place once again
I’m in that place once again

Once again I look upon the cross where You died
I’m humbled by Your mercy and I’m broken inside
Once again I thank You,
Once again I pour out my life

Now You are exhalted to the highest place
King of the Heavens, where one day I’ll bow
But for now, I’ll marvel at Your saving grace
I’m full of praise once again
Oh I’m full of praise once again

Thank you for the cross, my Friend.

That, folks, is the reason to celebrate.

10,000 Reasons

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
Lord, I’ll worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
I’ll worship Your holy name

(Matt Redman)
