Today is Canada’s 145th birthday.
I remember fourth grade and the ceremony outside my elementary school when our new red and white flag was raised, replacing Britain’s Union Jack. We were very proud Canadians to finally have our own distinctive identity. I remember the celebrations that took place during 1967 as our country turned 100 – the Centennial that pulled people together from coast to coast.
We are a great country. And I pray that the words our national anthem rings true in the heart of every Canadian.
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
