Five Minutes

Something stuck with me from a sermon I heard in church on Sunday: When you consider eternity, your life here on earth is like five minutes. How will you spend those five minutes?

I thought about people I know – relatives, even – who are wasting their five minutes. One has a master’s degree, but has chosen to live in near squalor on social assistance. Another is in prison for attempted murder. One more is an alcoholic who has lost everything, including family.

Then there are those I know who are living their five minutes to the max. Business people, pastors, teachers, good mothers and fathers,  doctors – people who follow after God’s heart and enjoy the life He has given them.

We get only one shot at this life. This is it. No second chances.

How will you spend your five minutes?
