On a Roll

Don’t you just love it when you’re on a roll?

After days of sitting here, staring at my computer screen, unable to come up with anything worthwhile, I am on a roll. The dance of joy has been danced (hypothetically speaking) and there is a lot of inner cheering going on. Yay, yay, and YAY!
Just one teeny, tiny little glitch in all of the merriment. Remember, the outline I so painstakingly drafted? Well – I’ve strayed.
A lot.
Perhaps not so much that it completely changes the story, but maybe a little. Or more than a little.
And frankly, I don’t really give a rip. The main thing is that creativity has once again been unleashed and this is one happy writer.
Laugh all you want, but you until you’ve been in this position, you have no idea what it’s like to know there is a story you need to tell and you can’t get the words out in any kind of logical (or even illogical) order. Often the words don’t come out at all. And that really sucks the slurpee.
Anyway, I just had to share that little piece of good news with you. Hopefully this roll will continue for a whole bunch of chapters because those poor kids stuck out there in the land of Ravenbray really need some help.

  1. Nobody's laughing, Wendy, least of all me. I know what you're going through. I know how many times I've looked at my own outline and seen the glaring flaws. I know how much work I've put into getting where I am now, and how much work will be required to see this through to the end. It's called the creative process, and it's not easy. The great news is, the process is the same for everyone. All those who have written and published novels make it look easy, but they worked hard and suffered, too. They went through the same thing. That's just the way it goes.Get up on that horse and ride, Wendy. Ride long and far. Get as much out of the process as you can while you can. Remember, it's the journey, not the destination. My thoughts are with you.
