These are the words splashed across the homepage of a large online bookstore site. Oprah Winfrey’s latest endorsement has the title soaring to the top of bestseller lists practically overnight. Although I haven’t read the book, it looks interesting and may well be worthy of the popular TV diva’s praise. But that’s not my point.
For years, it has bothered me that the media-influenced masses have placed Oprah on such a high pedestal that her word has become gospel. Whatever Oprah says, people believe.
I have news for you, folks. Oprah is not a god. She makes mistakes. And she as much as you might not want to hear it, Oprah has some pretty wonky ideas.
I am not disputing the fact that Ms. Winfrey does a lot of good in the world. She’s helped countless people with her influence and her money. Does that get her brownie points with He who really IS God? Not unless she has truly, deep in her heart, embraced Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Period. And I’m not going to judge whether or not that is the case.
Guard your heart. That’s all I’m saying.
