Book Review – Rescurrection in May

I recently received a copy of Lisa Samson’s book “Resurrection in May”. The book was free from Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for an honest review on my blog. This is the first book I’ve read by Lisa Samson, and I was pleasantly surprised. Although I am always on the hunt for new authors, she was not one I had on my “to read” list, for some reason.

I loved how the book began with the old farmer’s voice. You are drawn into Claudius’ world before you even know it – how simple his life is and how nothing much surprises him anymore. May Seymour comes into his life – drunk – and she is like a lost puppy Claudius takes in. The unusual relationship between the two continues, and when a broken and hurting May returns from missions trip to Rwanda, Claudius is there to help her heal.

This book impacted me from the character depth perspective. Lisa Samson has done a good job of developing her main characters, and I found myself continuing to read because I felt that I really knew them. Samson has a talent in that area, no doubt about it. The progression in May’s life is evident as she moves from a spoiled young adult to a mature woman. The circumstances in between are terrible and horrific, but the result is a transformation.

I’d recommend this book, especially to anyone who likes deep characters and stories that make you think.
