Just when I think I have it all together, I realize how far I have yet to go.
Why, you ask?
I’ve become mentally lazy – allowing my thoughts to wander about with no real purpose. I’m not entertaining anything wonky or weird, mind you, so there is no cause for alarm. I’m just not spending much time thinking about what I’m thinking about. And that’s not productive – at least not from a spiritual growth perspective.
When you keep your thoughts fixed on God, the things of God will naturally permeate your life, and then your goals will be in line with His will and His kingdom. That requires mental discipline – the ability to keep your thoughts consistently focused. Virtually any meaningful goal is within reach when you become mentally disciplined.
Philippians 4:8 says: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
That about sums it up.
Every time I gain revelation of something in God’s Word, I feel as though I’ve risen to the ceiling. In reality, I’ve just reached another floor – a new level to work on. And it’s a REALLY tall building!
