I think there are times I just need to knock my head against a brick wall and then perhaps I will actually “get it”.
Here’s the thing . . .
You live in a performance-oriented world. Everything you do is based on how well you perform, how smart you are, or how strong you are. You even call those annual meetings with the boss your “performance” evaluations. Your bonus (or lack thereof) is dependent on the quality of your performance.
But this doesn’t extrapolate well into your spiritual life.
You think that for God to bless you, you need to deserve, earn, or merit His favour and blessings by your own efforts. You think that God’s blessings are based on your performance and good works.
Not true.
God’s way is not about achieving, but about receiving. You cannot earn God’s blessings by your performance. There is nothing you can do to deserve God’s blessings, for they are based entirely on receiving Jesus – and through His finished work, the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.
How cool is that?
Maybe I’ll forego the brick wall for today . . .
“Your bonus is dependent” not in the AIG case ;-(another Wendy
Man, this is something I need reminding of over and over and over. Such freedom when I do walk in it tho!
